My husband and I have been to West Palm Beach twice on vacation, both times we also ventured down to Miami's South Beach area. Though both beaches are very different in culture, visitors share an undeniable desire to return. We love the strip on Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach heading to the white sandy beach on South Ocean Blvd. There's something about the carefree feel of the locals, and the beautiful scenery that surrounds us. Some of our favorite spots are City Place, a unique development with shops, restaurants, and even a Comedy Theatre, the Palm Beach Improv (we had tickets to D.L. Hughley on our last trip). Another hot spot for fun was E.R. Bradley's, an outdoor enclosed bar/ grille with dance party included. Our favorite little eatery hands down was "Too Jay's", a restaurant / deli that prepares homemade food on-site. Not only was the food delicious but the prices were a bonus! Where do we stay? We have stayed and expect to return to Wyndham Hawthorne Suites, West Palm Beach. The accommodations and service are excellent. The kitchen in our suite is very convenient for storing a late-night purchase of delicious gourmet Blue Belle ice-cream at the nearby Publix grocery store.
What do you do after a couple of days in West Palm...? You head to South Beach Miami, where the crowd is just as interesting as the ocean view! The beach is much wider than West Palm, but the aqua water is just the same! Though we never stayed overnight in South Beach, while strolling down the Ocean Dr. strip, the "Clevelander" makes you stare and want to know who is dancing on the dance floor centered just beyond the outdoor bar. For lunch we ate at the 11st. Diner, a must for anyone desiring real good food at a real good price. We walked off the calories from our lunch with a walk down to the rock/ under construction wooden pier, where you can at any given moment capture a view of a cruise liner just yards away. The culture is different than West Palm, but equally tempting. We definitely will be back!
